Children’s Declaration on Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation

Considering the high risk of climate change and disasters on children, the Department of Probation and Child Care Services, UNICEF, ChildFund Sri Lanka and World Vision Lanka facilitated the development of ‘Children’s Declaration on Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation’, which emphasizes six key demands from children. Those are:

1.    Education should be continued for all children, all the time, in a safe environment
2.    Children’s voices should be prioritized in disaster management and climate change adaptation plans
3.    All Development work should be sustainable
4.    Children should engage in developing disaster early warning systems
5.    All children should be protected during disaster situations and emergency responses
6.    All families affected in a disaster should get financial support through social protection programmes
